As an avid user of social media for my personal use, I really thought that using social media for business was going to be a breeze...was I ever wrong. To be honest to be successful one really needs to be organized, creative and consistent.
I learned right away that everything done on social media needs to have the same look and feel across all platforms. The look should really resemble the business. As was pointed out in class a webpage and or Facebook page is the business card of today.
Social Media is also an avenue for customer to communicate with the business. With action buttons on webpages and Facebook pages people are able to sign up for emails, newsletters and contact someone at the business. I set up a Facebook page for my father's private investigation company. I used my mom's Facebook page to create the business page. To my surprise, the first day I activated the page and invited my parents friends to like it, we had over 90 likes. We even had a few people ask to work for the company.
I did struggle to create meaningful post. The original idea was to have my dad write some meaningful information that could be posted regarding private investigations. That did not work out for me as he was always to busy. Unfortunately, I do not know enough about the business yet to make the post myself. I did however learn the importance of following competitors and possibly share a post or get information and keep on top of what the other investigators are doing.
For The RCL Group, Twitter and Facebook and Google+ and Constant Contact are the main platforms moving forward. I love Instagram personally but we just can not send photos of surveillance targets.
I learned that my original target market of attorneys and insurance firms was too narrow. Trying the Constant sending emails out I found that retired law enforcement personnel were good too for potential investigators.
The most interesting part of the class was learning about the analytics in Facebook. If I can work on the page at least once a week and follow other businesses and start getting more targeted followers the company can start being more purposeful in post and emailing.

Week 15
Seeing the actions on our business Facebook page is actually very remarkable. I had 2 actions on the page representing 100% increase from the week before. I learned that the page had 27 views up 170% and 2 page previews. I can see that claudiafaulkdesign.com viewed the page. I was unable to see the statistics by age and gender, by country, or by city. I was able to see that the page was viewed on computers and not mobile devices. We had 5 likes but did not reach anyone, however we did have 72 post engagements and 4 new followers.
Seeing this information on a week by week basis can really let me learn the effectiveness of venturing into social media for the business. In business everything is measured for efficiency and effectiveness. These are great tools to show my dad that social media can get the business seen.

Week 14
Advertising on Facebook is actually very easy. I was surprised to see that I was able to come up with something to advertise. For weeks I have really been struggling to figure this social media advertising out. I have taken a print screen of an ad I came up with since I am not ready to pay for advertising. The $35.00/week is not bad to get the message out about judgment enforcement. A conversation with my parents will need to take place before I actually place the ad.
I am curious, I am thinking that if I use the advertising tool in Facebook to develop ads, I should be able to duplicate it in twitter and Facebook to use in my feed. I will have to experiment with this.
I am starting to feel a bit excited about the prospects in advertising with social media. Until this moment I was thinking advertising our services would be difficult to develop.

Researching Advertising week 13
Advertisement in general annoys me personally when it presents itself on my screen when I am not looking to purchase anything. Having said this, I am having a real hard time getting my head around the thought of what an advertisement would say or look like to not be annoying.
With traditional advertising, whether in a newspaper or magazine, I can pick it up when I want and scan through the ads. I actually like to do this on Sunday mornings while I am drinking my coffee. The ads are there all day on the table until I throw them away. With social media advertising and having an ad pop up on the right side of Facebook or Instagram or twitter if you are not constantly watching you may miss an interesting ad.
I have researched 5 companies similar to The RCL Group. Of the 5 companies only 3 used social media. EMJ Digital uses Twitter, LinkedIn and Pintrest although there were no recent post. Silent Warriors Investigations uses LinkedIn and Twitter and they have no recent post. The third company, Direct Focus Investigations uses Facebook, Twitter and Google + but there has been no activity since 2013.
I definitely believe that a colorful simple banner ad would be useful for The RCL Group. I also believe that some traditional advertising such as postcard of brochure would be good to send out to local law firms.

Week 12 B
The research into additional social media tools has been a disappointing exercise for me. Our company uses a mailbox address to keep the business address confidential. By doing this, we learned will not be able to be listed in Google Plus and Google Maps. By personally joining Google Plus I was able to see the possibilities of the communities. I am not sure if in our particular circumstance if I should set my father up in Google Plus. I did join a few communities and the information is actually very interesting. We will be contacting the mail center to see if they can add us as additional company at the address for the purposes of utilizing Google as a business.
LinkedIn is our best bet for additional social media connections. I used my mom's account to research groups that the business will be able to join. There are groups for attorneys and groups for private investigators and groups for insurance carriers. I will be working on setting up a LinkedIn account for The RCL Group.

Week 12 A
I am excited to learn about the additional internet tools available to business owners. The Linkedin tool will be very good for networking with people that my father has not been in touch with in awhile. Some retired law enforcement officers would be great contracted investigators. The google plus is extremely interesting. The circles and communities can open up a whole new world of information and contacts. I idea of asking questions and having a captivated group is so worth looking into. I foresee these tools the missing link in gathering the intelligence needed to blog and tweet and postings on Facebook. I do not have the knowledge myself yet, but I can gather some and send to the expert (Dad) for approval.
Week 10 Part B
Thinking of Blogging and how to organize them, I believe we will need to break them up into 4 categories:
Private investigations
Judgment Recoveries
Security issues
Technical Devices used.
Private Investigations can be a category that speaks about the types of investigations the firm handles and perhaps touch on regulatory issues that private Investigators are to adhere to.
Judgment Recoveries can touch on recent cases as the cases are all public records.
Security issues are just that, the blog can address current security measures in computers, companies and Homeland Security
Technical Devices used in private investigations would be an interesting blog especially after attending a trade show geared to gadgets in the industry.
I liked Izek Gazette, Poetry Loggins, Abdul Sultani, Micheaella Ellis and Michell Bryson
I commented on Savanah Burkes, Kay Derival and Maria Ortega

Week 10 Blog Post
Blogging for private investigations actually seems like a great idea. Whenever my father is talking with someone regarding his work, they get very interested in what kind of case he is working on. Perhaps a blog about personal experiences of successful and not so successful cases would be interesting. He could blog about upcoming surveillance equipment or anti bugging devices. Explaining the human side of the investigator as well as the target might gain interest. After all most of our favorite shows include crime investigations.
On the flip side, writing about cases could also jeopardize a case in court. After talking to my dad, he informed me that any kind of blogging pertaining to a case is really not wise until long after it has gone through the courts.

Week 9 twitter
I am officially on information overload. The thought of receiving more information via twitter is going to send my father in a tailspin. He is so busy, I know I will have to take this task on at least once a month or every two weeks. I first attempted to follow and add attorneys to a list. I had to first add attorney clients. Many of the attorneys do not have a twitter account. The way I actually found some to follow was to google attorneys in the area and then look and see if they had a twitter account. When I used the search in twitter, many twitter accounts came up but I had to open each one to see if they were in the geographical location we are interested in.
I was disappointed to find out that our favorite PI Magazine did not have a twitter account. There is really good information in the magazine that would lend itself to being tweeted out. Call me lazy, but at this point I am working full time (not with my dad) and going to school full time. Tweeting will be great if I can have my dad feed me something exciting to tweet.

Week 11A Email Marketing
Email marketing, who does not love it. I have always wondered how companies were able to keep track and constantly email me marketing material. Sometimes it surely can be annoying, yet when I have consciously signed up for a company's email marketing plan, I can assure you I look at them before deleting them.
With Christmas quickly approaching, there are a few companies that I want to keep my eye on for sales on particular items. I am blessed to have many friends and family and unfortunately I have not discovered a way to decrease the amount of Christmas presents to purchase. Email marketing keeps me in touch with the sales on items I know I need.
Christmas shopping is an easy case for email marketing, everybody is looking for the best deal. Now for this class, I am posed with the question of how to use email marketing in a positive way in a Private Investigate company. This is actually harder than one may think. The company is not going to under sell the competition with a weekend special on surveillance of a subject. A Newsletter is a great idea for email marketing. Although I have not been able to find one investigation firm in the state of California that sends out any kind of newsletter, I am determined to find a way to make a newsletter work for The RCL Group.
My idea is to create a newsletter with focused on attorneys with content from Government Regulations (keeping investigations legal that will not jeopardize a case) and add content about how a private investigation had aided in a successful legal outcome for the prosecution or defense depending on the case.
Many legal firms use paralegals to gather certain information. In some cases, a paralegal research is all that is needed. Yet, in most cases, there is nothing better that two feet on the ground find the truth in person.

Week 8B Visual
Social media visually is not being used in the Private investigator Industry. I have checked with 5 agencies: National Business Investigations, Hudson Investigations, Orange Detective Agency, Sunset Blvd Investigations, and Vicenti. Each of these agencies have Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin but none have any visual media. I did have my father ask around to some of the other investigators in the community to inquire about Instagram. They all had the same response of "Why? are your going to take a selfie of yourself undercover?"
I think visual is just not going to be a winner for the The RCL Group. There are a few funny sayings about private investigators, although my father has a great sense of humor I am on the fence about posting it since I have already connected the page to all my mom's contacts. I connected the page to her account. What have I gotten myself into here? I am looking forward to twitter since that will make more sense for this business.

Week 8A
Here we are in week 8 of social media for business. I feel like a fish out of water. I have chosen to help my father's business by introducing The RCL Group to the world of social media. First, the company is a private investigation company. The word private is very important in this discussion.
As the company owner, my father is very concerned about posting pictures. Therefore, visual media is not a good fit for his company. There is no way he would ever post surveillance video on a target his company was hired to follow. I know everyone likes the videos that TMZ and other outfits post, but for The RCL Group clients - they want to be the only ones to view such video without compromising a case.
Up until introducing the company to the idea of social media marketing, every client has been by word of mouth and returning clients. Confidentiality is extremely important to my dad. So help me out. Last week I tried to re-post articles to Facebook that might be of interest to followers. I reached followers but had no reaction. My actual problem is that I am not an investigator nor have I been on a ride along while surveillance is taking place. At this point in my life I am working on the administration side - I have no connection to the actual investigations. I have given my very busy dad the task of finding me information to post and writing his own messages. I get the impression he thinks I am going to be some marketing genius and produce that too. Let's pray he comes through.

week 7B
I had so much trouble with this assignment. Trying to find the right type of material to put on the facebook page is challenging for this business. It is clear why so many companies are not doing it.
I tried to schedule more but they instantly got posted. I need to practice more.
Week 7A
This world of social media for business is very interesting and confusing. I have been liking pages of the following business:
California Association of Licensed Investigators
California Association of Independent Oil marketers
Best Best and Krieger
Hieting and Irwin
Thomas Employment Law
Soroptimist International of Riverside
Virginia Blumenthal for RCC Board 2018.
The Facebook pages I chose were organizations my father is associated with or has done business with. I was disappointed to see many organizations did not have Facebook pages. I figured my parents were the only ones not in the game. The Facebook pages we did like were not very active. I am not really sure how liking the pages I did would help to grow the private investigation business my father has. I did not even see any interesting information I would want to share or link. I am going to have to be more creative in this strategy of social media.

Week 6 Part 2
Woo Hoo! I created a Facebook business page for my parents business using my mom's Facebook account. We invited her friends to like the page. We were amazed at how fast the likes came in. I shared it on my Facebook page as well. We waited until we reached the 30 likes mark to see what the insights would reveal, specifically the Reach and the Post Engagement.
I had created a post regarding the recent violence in Las Vegas. The Reach is to let us know how many people saw any of our post on the Facebook page. Evidently even with over 30 likes, my reach is not reflecting anything. A message indicating there is not enough data to show. Post Engagements on the other hand lets me know that 9 people reacted to the post or to the logo or the linked website. In addition, 3 people contacted me through the action button. This is completely new to me from a business point of view. My parent are looking forward to seeing if any business will be generated by my new facebook page. Thank you to all who liked my page.

Week 5 part 2
I will be working with my dad's company The RCL Group. The company has no social media presence and as I pointed out a week or so ago I would like to help him to get started in the social media world. The website is therclgroup.net.
The RCL Group is a Private Investigative and Security Consulting Firm. The target markets the company will first be concentrating on will be the insurance industry and attorneys. Surveillance is time and time is billable hours. Insurance agencies and Attorneys have proven to be the best repeat business.
Initial information found is that the workers compensation insurance agencies spend more on private investigation work than other types of insurance. I am intrigued and challenged to find out how I can get data on the specific money insurance agencies vs attorneys spend.

Week 5 part 1
Diapers, not a subject that I am wanting to think about anytime soon for myself, yet I find it interesting the choices that are available these days. My mom and dad gave as a gift to my brother and his girlfriend a diaper service. The service dropped off the nice clean smelling diapers and would pick up the dirty ones each week. It was nice for a week or two but they ended up being more costly and more of a pain in the butt than they were worth. I have told my mom I did not want that service when one day I become a mom. Having made the realization that I will need to be disposal diaper kind of mom, these two websites for diapers made me curious.
The look and feel of both websites cater to the market they are targeting. Interestingly, Econobum is a company that targets families wanting to be environmentally friendly and who do not mind cleaning the dirty diapers. Obviously they are charity minded in that they donate diapers to missionaries and to families in Africa. The family picture is right there on the about us page so as a consumer we can put a face to the name. I suppose if I were purchasing something that will be so intimately part of my baby's wardrobe, I like believing the family really put their heart into it. The action buttons are not easily missed.
The Just Cheap Diapers website looks like it is catered to the family, like my brother's, that need cheap diapers for their little pooping machine. The owner Joyce Bangga does not have her picture and quite frankly, she does not need to. No one is going to care who the middle man is in getting a good deal on cheap diapers. The colors are bold and bright and nothing about it screams environmentally friendly. There are however no bold action buttons so the old click on the picture will not tell the price. The consumer would have to go to the contact us button to learn more. Not a user friendly website.
I think when the time comes, I will go to a Walmart website and/or amazon and buy the name brands we are used to.

Week 4 Part 1
The riverside art center in Ohio, https://www.riversideartcenter.org/, is a simple but tough site to navigate through. At first glance it looks like it is a one page website, in which the reader has to scroll to the bottom looking for the information wanted to find it is not there. I personally would have left the site if it were not for the assignment. It took me a while to realize the navigation access was on the right hand side with just 3 lines. I happened to click on it and found the pull down menus.
Second the pull down menu is so light there is not contrast as far as where a potential client or donor would click. The background is overpowering to the pull down.
Third the items that stand out the clearest are the logos at the bottom that I am assuming are the supporters or perhaps the cafe attached to the art center. The Art Center logo is not large and I would never recognize it if I saw it again.
The Gates N Fences website, http://gatesnfences.com/ is the most cluttered website that I have encountered. I suppose if I came across this website while looking for a gate I would be overwhelmed and want to leave the site. The navigation bar is way too big. Perhaps break down 3 or 4 pages groups of information and or products. The contact us and other pages are way down after a bit of a scroll. I thinks links to the picture and specific products would be more manageable.
Head Hunter Hair Styling has a nice website, /www.headhunterhairstyling.com. The site is easy to navigate and the colors are spa like. The images rotating on the screen show specifically the types of services they are selling. I specifically like that they list the stylist with a picture and some information. It is nice to know going into a service location a little about the person who will be treating you for the first time.
Toyota is a large global corporation, www.toyota.com, I would expect them to have an aesthetically appealing website. I personally like the red color that is used. Red is bold and catches my attention. The navigation or action buttons are images and makes finding where to go easy. The current promotional offer is front and center to help make you want to stay on the page a bit longer. The site is not overwhelming and it does not ask for your information to search or build your ideal car, this is always a plus when someone is just looking and does not want to be bothered afterwards.

Week 3 Part B
The RCL Group
https://therclgroup.net/
The RCL Group is a Private Investigative Company and Security Consulting Business owned by my father. They currently do not have any social media presence. The company runs pretty much by word of mouth. I want to help him to move into social media.
Linked Investigations
https://linkedinvestigations.com/
This private investigations company uses blogs but no other social media.
National Business Investigations
https://www.investigations-nbi.com/
Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin and Yelp
The company is very active and the last post was on Facebook Sept 14.
Hudson Investigations
http://hudsoninvestigations.com/
They are currently using Facebook, twitter and an rss feed.
Benchmark Investigations
This private investigation company does not utilize any social media
The large companies are in fact using social media and Facebook appears to be the platform of choice. I did look into more of the private investigators in southern California and realized that not many are using social media. I have spoken to my dad and inquired about how they get clients. He told me again that in his particular business his clients are referrals. Most PI's have some sort of law and/or legal background with a lot of networking capabilities.
NBI is a large company that has been around since 1967 and employs quite a few people. Most private investigation companies are sole proprietors that contract out certain jobs keeping their overhead very low. My dad likes to travel and likes to pick and chose the jobs he takes on, therefore until I start working for him, he does not want to expand too much.

Week 3 part 1
There is something about the Internet and posting negative
comments that intimidates me a bit. It is kind of like when we were in
high school and any problems or negative comments would remain on our
records forever. I have this vision of ripping a company a new one for
terrible service or faulty product, then one day sitting for a job interview at
another company and my words coming back on me.
I believe social media takes
the squeaky wheel concept to a whole new level. I always look at reviews
of products or companies before I purchase or engage in working with them.
Yelp has come to be a very helpful and powerful tool. I have
personally posted positive comments when I have experienced a good product or
great service.
I have learned of companies
changing policy or products based on feedback and/or reviews on social media.
In the event I was a business owner, I would be monitoring every social
media channel possible to be aware of the conversations. To be honest, I
would probably hire an expert to help in the event of something negative.
I have a tendency to lash out quickly in defense, rather than digest
what is being said first.
Week 2 part 1 Overview of Social Media
With so many social media tools available on the internet today,
it is hard to decipher which one is the best for an individual and/or a
business. In my particular circle of friends, we use SNAP CHAT
to communicate and show our
friends family what we are up to and share moments we feel are memorable.
This particular tool is fast and the pictures and videos we post keep us
laughing all the time. We also use this tool for at quick shout out to
everyone when we are planning an event and want to see if others want to join
us. For those who want to join in or learn more they can send a personal
chat.
For business, I believe
LINKEDIN is the best tool. Although I have not joined or used this
platform, I have looked it over with my mom. She is an owner of an petroleum
distribution company. Each day she gets regular updates on colleagues and
friends throughout the world on what is going on in their business. She
has added competitors to her friend to keep an eye on what new products are
being developed. More importantly, she can keep track of key people in
her industry as they move from one company to another. On this tool, no
one cares that you took a trip to Paris nor does anyone want to see how cute your
dog is.
In my opinion, I believe
FACEBOOK is the best tool to share business and personal interest. Anyone
can connect to a person's page or a business page all in the same program.
Depending on who or what business pages you follow, you can get a lot of
information. FACEBOOK seems to give you the best feedback as far as
people liking and sharing your post.

Week1A: My Post
Today I am lost in my memories of a trip to France with my mother. I was only 12 years old, yet I can remember the trip like it was yesterday. After a long plane ride, we arrived to a beautiful hotel in the heart of Paris. It was an early morning in July and I recall how nice the staff was to welcome us to our their hotel. The smell of fresh baked bread as we walked along the street. We started the day off with a tip to the Louvre. Notwithstanding the fact that I had visited many museums with my mom before this particular trip, the Louvre seemed almost unreal to me. It housed some of the most famous works of art known in history. The statutes, the paintings I had learned about as a little girl were now right in front of me. I could not wait to see what was in store for us next.
After learning how to use the subways,we finished our day at the Eiffel Tower. We climbed to the top. We did it with such enthusiasm that I wonder if we could do it again. The day turned into evening and the Tower lit up with the most beautiful twinkling lights. We sat on a bench after descending from the top and ate our baguettes with meat and cheese and got lost in the idea of being able to live in France. These memories and the special time with my mom is why I chose this theme.
